Company Dancer Tamara Zurvas returns to her hometown Rockhampton…

Rehearsing Cloudland in Queensland Ballet studios in Brisbane before going on tour

I’m very excited we brought Cloudland to Rockhampton – it’s a story most people can relate to whether they went to the Cloudland Ballroom themselves or were familiar with the story. And everyone remembers the first time they went dancing!

It was wonderful having my friends and family in the audience, they’re very supportive.

What did your family and friends think of the performance?

They absolutely loved it. They more or less said it was their favourite ballet they’d seen of Queensland Ballet’s in Rockhampton. My family and friends really related to the music, and having the music live on stage was wonderful. I think most of them enjoyed the jive the best!

What did you get up to in Rockhampton?

We had a dinner party the first night – everyone on the tour brings a dish to share. It’s a bit of a tour tradition and is a lot of fun.

After rehearsals on the second day at the Bev Prange Studio I had dinner with my family. It was great to catch up with them, and my family cat Mischa!

What’s it like rehearsing on tour?

It’s a bit different rehearsing in other studios, but we always have enough space to work. We’ve started rehearsing some pieces for our upcoming International Gala, which is exciting.

Favourite bus game?

ETA – we try and estimate our time of arrival at the next location!

What’s your favourite thing about going on tour?

Going home to Rockhampton is definitely a highlight, as well as spending time with friends – I’m close to a lot of people in the Company and it’s great to hang out and do different things together. I love visiting different places – I’m particularly looking forward to Cairns and Townsville.  Oh, and it’s great to escape the winter! It’s a bit warmer up here…
